Re: What's your favorite opening to a film?

WALL-E gave me chills. The opening upbeat "Sunday Clothes" slowly giving way into the incredible loneliness of Wall-E's life was pretty powerful, IMO.

Re: Super 8 = E.T.?

Personally, did not see it as a remake or rip off of any kind.

I liked the movie a lot. Thought it was a fun ride with a lot of heart and some well timed laughs.

Re: Are Movies Doomed Theatrically?

Don't have time to read all the posts. So, I apologize for redundant points.

Personally, I don't think the theater experience is doomed. I believe certain tent pole films will continue to strike...

Re: Is a romantic relationship necessary?

Suppose that's possible. Of course, there are many other possibilities. Maybe that scene was axed because it became apparent that there was enough sexual tension set up to support that kiss scene......

Re: Is a romantic relationship necessary?

It doesn't matter what type of movie it is. If you set something up and don't pay it off, there are going to be those who feel cheated or unfulfilled. Which is apparently what happened with the...

Re: Is a romantic relationship necessary?

If you set up a mystery and don't deliver a pay off, people will get pissed.

If you set up a joke and don't deliver a punch line, people will get pissed.

If you set up horror and don't deliver...

Re: Flashbacks - lazy?

IMO, lazy is relying on rules created by someone else so one doesn't have to make creative decisions on their own.

Re: Flashbacks - lazy?

The point is not to defend instances where flashbacks are possibly misused.

The reality is that most scripts feature elements that someone won't like. There's no getting around any of that.

My...

Re: Flashbacks - lazy?

There's also an old adage that one should show rather than tell. A flashback is showing. If you replace that with characters explaining what happened, then you've succeeded in replacing "showing"...

Re: Favorite Remake Of A Film?

There were multiple film adaptations of Baum's "The Wizard of Oz" novel released prior to the iconic 1939 musical with Judy Garland. Actually a few sequels sprinkled in as well.

Most are available...

Wasn't aware that it flagged them.

Can't you just click "ignore all"?

Re: Lawsuit against WME and CAA

I asked a girl out on a date a few weeks back. She declined.

Since I can't get into them on my own, I'm going to hire an attorney and sue her pants off.

Then I'm going to hire "WICKID PU$$*...

Re: Favorite Sport Movie In Each Sport.

Boxing and Baseball are really the only two sports that have more than one choice, IMO.

Golf: Caddyshack. Nothing else is even close, IMO. One of my all time favorite movies.

Basketball:...

Re: How to achieve objectivity. Or, How do you know when you've got *it*

Hate to say it, but this is a subjective medium. What people like and don't like are *subject* to a myriad of different criteria that is impossible to quantify.

Basically, you're just going to...

Re: Hiding to Nothing

I don't think real life is going to deliver unique(1) characters. In real life, most people are pretty cliche. We tend to parrot. There just aren't that many unique(2) people out there.

What will...

Re: Degree of Difficulty

I don't agree. TAKEN strikes emotional chords with it's fans as well.

Could the author of FORREST GUMP write TAKEN?

It's quite possible TAKEN would be a greater challenge for him.

Conversely, I...

It's a very interesting thread premise. There are several layers to this as it's not just about complicated plots. Stories stimulate both the left and right brain. Emotion plays a massive role....
