Paying WGA dues

Probably a really dumb question but when declaring your earnings for the current quarter, you even declare the percent of your income that goes to your reps? So the 25% of my money I never even see...

Re: Does anybody miss physical copies of scripts?

I love physical copies and print out every script I read. My apartment has about 700 scripts laying around in these sort of IKEA cubby holes. Because I print out so much I finally bought myself a...

Re: In Time Screenwriter Ripped Off

A few weeks ago my Landlord asked me to read something his daughter's boyfriend wrote. I've never met the guy and was trying to find a way out of this situation when my landlord added "although he's...

Re: Selling your jokes on the page

I thought the joke was supposed to be "it'll just be a 30 foot drop"... which seems like a pretty big drop.

Huh...

Re: Trouble with the Curve - Today's Spec?

I'm guessing your name is Ryan? :mpopcorn: It'll be interesting to see what the outcome of this case is.

Re: How long of a break do you take between scripts?

I take about 3 days off to sit around in my pajamas eating cheese nips and binge watching whatever show has been piling up on my DVR.

Re: Screenplay pet peeves

My writing partner wrote a script on his own right before we joined up and the profanity was off the charts. I did an advanced search in the PDF and there were literally 415 instances of the F word....

Re: It's the little things

I don't know why a character finding something interesting is considered a cheat. That's something an actor can convey. I do a lot of directing from the page and it's never bothered anyone. ...

Re: Elysium

This has been my main problem with earth. With no roof outside I am constantly at risk while running errands.

Re: Elysium

Elysium was alright. I kept my mood up by repeatedly thinking "well at least it's nowhere near as bad as Pacific Rim".

Re: Trouble with the Curve - Today's Spec?

I have a feeling that this whole thing wasn't done fairly at all. My cousin Ricky recently finished an ultimate frisbee spec and not one call from Clint OR Warner bros. How many other writers out...

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness

I liked this movie. Sure it's dumb and has a lot of plot holes and the Alice Eve underwear thing was terrible but I definitely found it a fun time. The visuals and sound were great and Cumberbatch...

Re: Identity Thief

I think it's especially hard to tell who came up with what on a comedy. You're gonna have the director coming up with jokes... you might have a couple guys watching the monitors whose sole job is to...

Re: 30 Rock finale

My friends and I concluded the finale was a total trainwreck. It's kinda sad cause I used to actually think the show was quite good in seasons 1&2.

Re: Zero Dark Thirty

I felt it was pretty mediocre most of the way through then it got good for the last half hour or so. I almost turned it off a couple times but glad I stuck around for the end.

Re: How to make an unlikeable character likable?

Andrew Stanton on likeable characters:

We stumbled into one of the biggest pits that we fall into in almost all the movies, which is liking your main character. This has gotta be the most illusive...

Re: Pacific Rim

I was a little disappointed by the trailer. The CG doesn't look as good as I'd hoped and Hunnam is a lousy actor.

BUT the script was pretty awesome and I'm sure this will be wicked looking in IMAX....

Re: Upcoming Scriptshadow book

An interesting new way for him to profit off others work by giving out scripts if you buy his book. Why doesn't he just get it over with and start charging per script he sends out. Seems like a new...

Re: Passengers

Waking her up was a terrible thing to do - no doubt about it - but you have to consider how the protagonist feels at the time he does it. He's had no one besides a robot to talk to for a very long...

Re: A Man's Movie

Sure. Not as "Man's movie" as others but I guess there's something about Cameron's films that often have the guy vibe running through them. Probably partly due to the machines/vehicles/weapons porn...

Re: Dexter Season 7

I'm still waiting for someone at the precinct to point out how badly Deb's relationships turn out.

Sean the mechanic: Married.

Rudy: Serial killer, DEAD

Anton: kidnapped and carved up. Then she...
