Re: What's the scene like now?

Thank you!

Just meaning no attachments (talent, Director) other than the producer who took it to the buyer.

Re: What's the scene like now?

Of course after downplaying this idea I sold a naked true story spec this week.

Re: What's the scene like now?

You’re conflating two things here. I mean, sure there are genre-y true story stuff. (Open Water as an example, maybe) But broadly speaking in the context of this conversation these two things are...

Re: Abrams Artists Signs WGA CoC

Sorry, I was posting at a red light. Gersh sounds like they are signing soon. Is what I was told by someone there today. So who knows...but that’s what they seem to think.

Re: Abrams Artists Signs WGA CoC

I don’t know if this is out there on social media but it sounds like they are going to sign the code soon.

Re: What's the scene like now?

I think multiple might be overstating it at this point. What are those sales for 2019? I might have missed them. Just doesn’t reflect the realities of the marketplace, IMO.

The idea that The...

Re: What's the scene like now?

We’re talking specs, not pitches, right? Where are the naked spec sales for anything non-genre’y that isn’t made for a price? The contraction in 2019 on that front is not insignificant. Obviously...

Re: What's the scene like now?

Agreed. There’s just no motivation for them to go back to that model of development, right? What’s the upside?

For the limited slate of studio releases, it makes total sense to have the necessary...

Re: What's the scene like now?

Good luck get anything mid-budget sold on spec. I don’t buy takes like “Knives Out will mean a shift back to original theatrical content!” Not at that price point anyway.

Write something cheap,...

Re: Possible Stolen Script

Based on stories I’ve heard from my manager, you people are far too trusting. Before I was exposed to the industry I assumed everyone one of these “my sh1t was stolen!!” posts were nonsense. And in...

Re: Possible Stolen Script

My first instinct is to call bs. Of course, I have zero evidence that it is bs. Sure, lawyer up. But out of curiosity, what evidence do you have that it is stolen?

From the high class problems department.

Re: If you have a manager and attorney, do you absolutely need an agent?

DM a link to your script. I’ll take a look and see if it is something I would refer to my manager.

Re: If you have a manager and attorney, do you absolutely need an agent?

Conceptually that’s a tough sell because there’s no hook (as you’ve described it here) and it sounds expensive. Don’t write a blockbuster. That’s my two cents.

Re: Star Wars

I loathed TLJ and loved this one. Wondering if this will have more legs than TLJ even though it will open lower. My expectation is higher repeat and better word of mouth over the holiday break.

Re: Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood

I’m not exactly a QT fanboy. The only movies of his I really enjoyed previously are RD and Hateful Eight. I thought everything about this was perfect. It felt more grounded and less surreal. It was a...

Re: Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood

I’m not a big QT fan at all. Just not my thing. But this one falls in my top 10 of the decade. Possibly top 5.

Re: Manager/Producers want to write with you

Figured that is who it was. I’d personally avoid this situation unless they came to me with a high concept cheap/contained idea that I loved more than anything else I had an idea for.

Re: Manager/Producers want to write with you

The possibilities of who this company is are limited. My advice is given with that in mind. So the town is littered with CEs with no pull trying to push sh1t forward. If I were in your shoes I’d see...

Re: Manager/Producers want to write with you

So you’re in the guild and they are using the guild site to source free writing? That would seemingly be a sh1t move. Are they a signatory?

The Affair

I don't know how I stuck with this show for the entire run - I've bailed on much better shows for far less. Rightfully I'd like to have been done after S2. I'd have never recommended it as a...
