Re: Where to stay in LA?

West Hollywood is pretty central to most places. Stayed there when I was last in LA, and will stay there again next time.

Air B'n'B is great value for money if you want to travel cheaply.

And you...

Re: Payment for Writing a Screenplay

Legit or not, it's whether the director hiring this writer, or any writer, even has 50% of a writer's fee to pay the writer before commencement of script. A lot of the times, they don't have a dime....

Re: Payment for Writing a Screenplay

ALWAYS take a % of budget, with a floor and ceiling.

ie. 3% production budget, with a $15k floor, $150k ceiling.

YOU are taking the risk here, not the director. They lose a concept if the film...

Re: Problem with "Pursuit of Perfection"

Perfection of appearance isn't as important as what it is you are wanting to say with your story. Not your voice, but what you are saying with your words.

Work on honing that so it is clear and the...

Re: Now I've Heard Everything.

Sounds like they've had a sh*tty day and used you as their coping mechanism by having a laugh. Obviously a joke to see if you bite.

Don't reply and move on.

Re: Quiet Moments

EDGE OF TOMORROW -- when Cruise and Blunt are resting in the abandoned shed, discussing the loop and how they don't venture further than this moment.

Re: The new X-Files....

Watched the new season up to date so far and it's actually a blast of fun. Sure, it won't beat the originals but it's still a good hit of nostalgia and I'm excited to see how far they push the show...

Re: Which script reader is best for your buck?

Script Sergeant is very good value for money. $1 per page of script. And fantastic notes. Very in depth and thoughtful.

Re: Being a creative mind and still caring for the mundane.....

Remember if it weren't for your mom, you wouldn't exist.

Your lack of empathy for fellow human beings is disturbing.

But good luck to you.

Re: Treatments

Use either the treatment for THE TERMINATOR or MR & MRS SMITH as a template.

Both are the best I've ever read.

Re: Script Proofing Checklist

Print your script on paper and proof read it from top to tail. You'd be surprised what mistakes your eyes pick up that you missed on a computer screen.

Re: Curious what folks think about this...

Nothing wrong with making a case against what you don't like and for someone to rewrite a writer's own work is a definite step on a writer's toes; that said a writer is hired to write, not be a story...

Re: He notices...

Try other words to help describe the action.

For example, instead of "walks", maybe use: strides, saunters, crosses the room, approaches, strolls, creeps, steps forward, ambles, wanders, dawdles,...

Re: Producers, would you hire a writer who doesn't live in LA?

I've been querying managers in LA as I'm visiting in May and am currently unrepped. I have a sole feature credit in a horror/thriller being released this year and it was an assignment off the back of...

Re: Curious what folks think about this...

Can I be so bold as to ask if you've ever worked with producers on a script?

Truth is -- you're hired to write the movie producer's want, not the movie you want the producer's to produce.

Re: Producer Credit

Asking for a producer credit for simply referring a script is a cheap move, so don't do it.

Unless you're setting up the film with investors or prod co's, or doing some of the heavy lifting in...

Re: Curious what folks think about this...

I'd ask them what it is about the current ending, as you have written it, that they aren't happy with.

Ignoring their new ending for a moment, it would be worth looking at the note behind the note....
