Re: Need Some Advice...

Lots of great advice on here. To echo others, don't over think the rep thing. Reach out to as many as possible. Should that lead to a conversation with a potential rep further down the line, then you...

Re: Need Some Advice...

Can only speak from my own experiences here. I've had a few managers where their company were also successful prod cos including my current one. Sometimes they'd want to show a project to the...

Re: Going Wide in 2019

My manager has always been pretty good in terms of keeping me updated on who we’re in with and who has passed, whether or not folks dug the script/writing or didn’t vibe with it. My agents on the...

Going Wide in 2019

Thought I’d start a new thread on this as most of them about the topic of going wide are from a few years ago now. I may be wrong here but the approach seems to have shifted from the days of blasting...

Re: You're a producer, fo realz???

I have a script that hit the market yesterday. Today I received an email from one of the producers the script has gone to, just to say “hey I’ve just had your script through. I’m...

Re: Time it takes your agent to read material?

All valid points and maybe they can/have. It's not something they've relayed back to me though. The director has just come off the back of a number of hit movies at the BO (grossing over a billion...

Re: Cut To:

I’m not sure I’d ever use it throughout an entire script hence my saying I’ve a few in my most recent specs. Sometimes a transition is needed and it feels right. Sometimes I won’t even go from a ‘cut...

Re: Time it takes your agent to read material?

Man alive, I'm starting to fully understand that old phrase "hurry up and wait!" So my agents finally read the spec after a month. They loved it. Great news. They think it's perfect for the market....

Re: Cut To:

If it needs it, add it. Simple as that. No hard and fast rules. There's so much BS around about what you can and can't put in a script. As long as it flows and doesn't bump the reader out of your...

Re: Can WGA Writers Work for Non-Signatories Outside US?

Yeah that was my initial thought. My agents said the agency held a meeting about it and weren’t going to sign which suggests they’ve been asked to.

British agencies will no doubt be less keen to...

Re: Can WGA Writers Work for Non-Signatories Outside US?

I have agents in the UK and the US and am based in London. I’ve been working steadily in tv and film for about five years in the UK. I’m not in the WGA but have had a few options set up...

Re: BBC owns all British history or royal rights?

Your best bet in terms of getting any kind of development or production support for your project would be to align yourself with a British producer. And one that has links to the BFI. Look at films...

Re: Time it takes your agent to read material?

My managers have always said they don’t need the assistance of agents to take a project out to the town (and more often than not it’s hard to please the agents) but that it’s good...

Re: Time it takes your agent to read material?

You’d think they’d be more available in the current climate.

Re: Time it takes your agent to read material?

Managers can certainly move stuff independently but the ones I’ve worked with often like to have agents onboard (if that’s an option) as it means there’s more people pushing the project around town.

Re: Time it takes your agent to read material?

Thanks for the replies folks. I’m currently 3 plus weeks now and nothing. Managers are baffled by it too given my agents just lost all their WGA clients. Managers checked in with ‘em...

Time it takes your agent to read material?

I'm curious how long it takes other folks' agents to get back to them on a new script? My managers are super fast. Usually a matter of days. We then go back and forth on notes over a few weeks until...

Re: WGA Firings - is this the wors a manager/- or the BEST?

Slight side bar here but I wonder if folks on DD can chime in on this for me. I have a new spec that’s not too far away from being ready to take out. I’m British, have UK agents, am not...

Re: The waiting is the hardest part...

All down to the money I’m afraid. If it’s financed it’s different rules.

I’ve a project in the independent sector. Director is a big time commercials guy with one Oscar...

Re: When your script doesn’t go out wide

That’s an awesome story. Very cool of you to share.

I think we may both be with the same agency? Hopefully, with a little luck they’ll help find my tricky Braveheart style script a home.

Lots of varied and interesting experiences here folks. Great to hear. Keep ‘em coming! I’m sure there are plenty of positive stories out there but it does seem as though the ‘slip the script’...

When your script doesn’t go out wide

There’s a lot of great threads on done deal about scripts going out wide but not so many that discuss when your reps target select producers instead. Thought it might be interesting for the DD...

Re: Typical rep problem

Hey Travis,

You still with the same foreign managers we talked about a couple of years back? If so, then based on my own experience with them I wouldn’t worry about any spiteful reactions. I was...

Re: Blade Runner 2049

Not really sure the US market means as much these days. Can’t say I’m surprised either by the tepid BO figures stateside. It’s a heavily thematic sci-flick with an art house feel...
