Re: Nearing completion - what's next?

Now to actually answer your question:

-Once you feel your script is ready, you need to get it out there. This usually means submitting it to a manager (don't bother with agents at this point). This...

Re: Yet another movie...

You jest, but that would actually make for an interesting premise. There have been dramas and docus about that, where one member of the couple is a porn star or prostitute, but not so much in romcoms...

Re: Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood

I thought there were some really great moments (Leo's fit in the trailer being one of the highlights, and Brad just being Brad on nonchalant sexy overdrive) and I freaking loved the ending. Even as...

Re: Yet another movie...

It's got nothing to do with PC, there are plenty of shows and films about parenthood and family. I just find it unoriginal and artificially designed to make the character likeable and non-threatening...

Re: Yet another movie...

I know, I hate spelling that word. There was also MUST LOVE DOGS. And some others. It's just one of those professions where, when it's revealed, I'm not surprised. And it usually adds very little to...

Re: Yet another movie...

Some little movie with Jason Sudeikis, doesn't really matter. As I said, it just seems like such a go-to profession for a young woman in a romcom because it checks a lot of the right boxes. But even...

Yet another movie...

...where the female lead in a romcom is a kindergarten teacher. Seriously?

It's like a bunch of people got together in a room and said, So what would be a good profession for a woman that's cute...

Re: "Bad" Movies You Love

The guy's 90 and still going strong, so yeah, respect. I do think he was really crushed by the failure of DUNE. Luckily he was able to recycle a lot of those ideas into his comics, which are now his...

Funny you should mention him, I just finished working on a huge translation project around JODO's work.

Thanks for all the comments guys, appreciate them, sorry so late to respond. Lots of deadlines lately and since I don't hang out here as much anymore, I tend to forget when I post...

Re: Loving your character too much

@ Centos: it's actually the opposite here, I knew I had him doing this bad thing, but I sort of don't want him to do it now because I'm attached to him. Which is what Storywriter and Catcon are...

Re: Loving your character too much

Dude, this has nothing to do with social media or anything. It's about story. And characters. We might create these stories and these characters, but there also has to be an inherent truth about them...

Loving your character too much

I'm having a hard time with this. I want to do what the story requires, but I can't tell if I like a character too much to make him do something terrible that would serve the plot.

I find it an...

Re: Should I go to ComicCon?

In old age, I might regret not using that money for a month or two on some digital nomad work-vaycay... :) So there's that.

Re: Should I go to ComicCon?

It's for a graphic novel I translated and it's the San Diego convention. Let's face it, translators don't get a whole lot of attention in this biz and if the book wins, I'd probably get shoved off...

Should I go to ComicCon?

A book I worked on is up for an award, and people are saying it's going to win. I would love to be there of course, I'm sure it would be a hoot even if the book doesn't win, but it would be kind of...

Re: Advice on character reaction description

Amen. People go to all kinds of extremes to avoid breaking some stupid rule. If you say "he's shocked," guess what, an actor can take it from there. That's what they do. No need to write five lines...

I don't visit here that often anymore, but come on, guys! This is... I've been in a sad state of shock ever since the news. I don't even have a TV, so it's not like I was watching his show every...

Re: A Bit Of A Vent. Sorry.

So you feel powerless. And for good reason. Writers aren't exactly at the top of the totem pole in Lalaland. Except for a few happy few. When I realized that "success" in HW for most writers involves...

The science behind the shrinkage is just one of the many issues that would have been interesting to explore but that was completely ignored. A few other questions that arise:
-economics: the notion...

Re: Downsizing

What an odd film. There's a great premise that is just completely dropped to switch to another theme entirely. They didn't milk or explore the miniature concept at all after it is introduced, not...
