Re: Should we all be writing books instead?

I agree one does not preclude the other. You're a writer, I don't think it matters much what the medium is, you're probably going to feel the urge to write something, so what's wrong with a novel? ...

Hey all. Anybody have an email for Braden Aftergood or anyone else at Eighty Two Films they'd be so kind to share in a PM?

Re: Nicholl 2019 Results

Top 20%. Glad I didn't get my hopes up after so many years of not making the cut except I think two times in the Quarters years ago. Onward.

Re: Synopsis -- Producer to Financiers

Seems pretty straightforward to me. It's just an encapsulation of the major plot points of the story, in the order it happens. Basically this is part of what coverage entails, so the party can read...

Re: How Tone and Voice = Writer's Style (attitude and personality)

I've read BALLS OUT back in the day and sure it's good.

The example actually seem to be confirming the OP's hypothesis, which is that the way it's written helps it stand out and heightens the...

Re: Reputable agents/managers charging a fee to read

Resurrecting this to report that Chris Sablan is now in the pay-to-play space and wants you to pay him a fee to "consult" about your script.

Anyone repped by him should consider what kind of loser...

Re: Had a bit to drink. Bear with me

Wellll, in all fairness, Docgonzo does have a point in that you do tend to come on here at points of existential crisis to relate how this producer stiffed you or that manager let you down. And yes...

Re: What's a realistic batting average on queries?

Frustrating, yeah?

I haven't plugged anything for quite a while, but unscientifically speaking I am going to say my request rate hovers around less than 5%. Others' mileage may vary.

Re: Agent, Manager, Or Both??

I'm no pro, but I've gone down this road a number of times.

I've never gotten a favorable response from an agent in cases like this, ever. The question immediately comes up whether there's an...

Re: I have no voice

Who cares? It's one person's opinion. Don't dwell on it and be prepared for much less kind feedback once you get your film out there. It's a tough business, and with social media and so forth...

Re: Daniela Garcia-Brcek - Circle of Confusion

I met her at a conference and she read something of mine and passed. She seems like a nice person but kind of a follower rather than a champion, and that opinion is irrespective of her passing on my...

Re: John Zaozirny (Bellevue Productions)

This guy sounds like a practitioner of the ol' "spec farm" approach.

Why doesn't he just write a screenplay himself based on his own idea and try and sell it like the rest of us? Because he can...

Re: Managers Feedback

I agree with the others who've chimed in. People in the business often will kill you with kindness while doing nothing for you and never giving you a straight answer.

But even with that said, the...

Re: Query Letter Success Stories

I signed with a manager off a query letter.

He proceeded to do absolutely nothing for me for the next two years except piss on my leg and tell me it was raining.

Re: Reputable agents/managers charging a fee to read

I've raised this before, about the rise of pay for play and how it's becoming more and more the norm. I for one don't think it's at all reputable, but preys on writer desperation.

Yes Scott Carr has...

Re: I own the most valuable literary I.p.

There is the germ of a movie script in this thread...I envision kind of like a modern take on BEING THERE, with Billyd as Chance the gardener.

Re: Non conventional scripts

BUBBLES was written from the POV of Michael Jackson's pet monkey. That's pretty out there.

Re: Time passing when everything is ok

If it sounds boring to you, chances are it's boring. But it's up to you as the writer to work out story elements like this.

Try putting yourself in this character's place and think about what they...

Re: Approaching agents/managers

It's the new normal for the writer to receive no response, ever, if they pass on your script.

If you haven't sent a follow-up yet to check in, still not too late to do so in case they just forgot or...

Re: Musings on details

I think how you write is essentially what is considered your "voice." And that is not something that fits easily in a box. You can read a dozen scripts from a dozen different successful screenwriters...
