Re: Cause for concern or just lawyer mumbo jumbo?

They are protecting themselves. They also don't want ANYONE sending them unsolicited scripts. It's their business model. Without a manager (agents are out right now) or a trusted industry...

Re: Project requested, no agent/manager to send it

It is a very kind pass, as indicated above. If they loved it, they'd send an NDA without an agent. No one reads a query they love then puts roadblocks up. Just keep sending them out.

Re: Extracurricular Activities

I wrote it originally as a writing sample, pretty sure because of the subject matter and my treatment of it there wasn't much of a chance it would get made. But I wanted to write something so out of...

Re: Extracurricular Activities

You assume correctly. It was a solo spec... I have solo credit. Only writer on the film. It was a dream come true. Thanks... It's a pretty dark funny thriller.

Re: Time it takes your agent to read material?

Ever since I fired my manager, my agent has become more attentive and reads my stuff faster. Maybe it's because he now knows HE'S my go to guy. And I no longer have someone more interested in...

Re: Do Managers/Agents USUALLY respond after a full read request?

First of all, you need to get to the mental state of, "Send and forget." Let go. 99% of submission is rejection. None of it personal. They don't care enough about you for it to get personal....

Re: Do Managers/Agents USUALLY respond after a full read request?

The above is correct. But you need to know, more and more managers, agents, and producers are resorting to what I call The Silent Pass. If you don't hear from them, it's a no. Why? Because too many...

Re: After read request, how long does it take?

I've heard as fast as a couple of days and as long as a month, 3 months, 6 months, and in one case, a little over a year. It's their schedule, not ours.

Re: After read request, how long does it take?

The question was After a Read Request. So they queried a logline and got a request for the script. No one reads unsolicited material.

Re: "Great Concept" Now What?

Tom, this is better advice than ANY you could pay for. Read it ten times, then take it to heart. There's not a single false thing there.

Re: Creative Rights

Yes, you can ask for those things, but they're not hills to die on. Your relationship with the director is more important for these things anyway. You build a meaningful relationship there and you...

Write a book. Sell 50 million copies. You can negotiate creative rights. Otherwise? They'll just walk away no matter how much they love your script. Understand that this part of screenwriting. Your...

Re: What would you do?

They passed on your script. So? They passed on thousands of scripts. Not just you. It happens. They see so many scripts and get so many queries they have no idea what they've passed on in the past....

Re: What's the budget?

This is correct. Taylor Sheridan said he wrote Hell or High Water to be a 3 to 5 million dollar film and sold it that way, it only ballooned to 10 million after getting that cast. Only estimate...
