Re: Querying studios

Some may be confused by the appearance of actual studio reps on paid-pitch services such as VPF, thinking this means that if a writer is crafty enough they can pitch the same studio (or contact...

Re: Cause for concern or just lawyer mumbo jumbo?

By sending them a query, then, you're agreeing to these terms!

Well, if it became a billion-dollar hit, in their wee dark hearts they know they might have a problem: You and your lawyer might come...

Re: Querying Studios

Nothing stops you from querying anybody until you get a 'no unolicited' response. At that point, you need to be courteous and stop bugging them.

Re: Structure 101: More than one way to build a screenplay (STPS #8)

Well now that's sort of profound. :)

I'm usually finished my outline before I remember to worry about structure. It's story, first and foremost, yet somehow the thing just comes out right,...

Re: Franklin Leonard

Well, I'm a query dude all the way, but that's out of necessity - because I have no fear and just don't have any discretionary income for the pay-for-access services anyway.

But the thing I get...

Re: Franklin Leonard

Sheesh, another 12+ page BL thread...

Anyway, I do think it's just a typical pay-for-access site, with a few benefits of the prestige variety.

But as to cost-benefit ratio, it's a rare business...

Re: Time it takes your agent to read material?

And every last one of these folks will want to have their input, as will the producers, and the financiers, and the other actors, and the guy who sweeps the set...

But if all works well,...

Re: Project requested, no agent/manager to send it

Even at my outsider stage as a puny unsold writer, for a couple of low-budget, art house-type projects, I've begun to approach actors/directors with informal requests for attachment, or even...

Re: Project requested, no agent/manager to send it

I've had luck submitting to prodcos with no-unsolicited policies through an attorney, but the best part is afterward: In subsequent opportunities they've often let me submit directly (when I ask...

Re: Can WGA Writers Work for Non-Signatories Outside US?

But shouldn't we keep mind that the brethren and sistern in foreign countries' guilds tend or try to act unofficially in ways to support any of the individual unions that's in a fight?

It's all part...

Re: Endeavor IPO Lifts Veil on Exec Pay...

IPOs making people instant billionaires is soooo fishy.

Here's a clip from an old Law & Order Criminal Intent. It's all you need to make you lose any faith you ever had in this high finance...

Re: Franklin Leonard

Perhaps it was that BL reader who's on LinkedIn, boasting how she reads 3-5 scripts per day. As she juices up on energy drinks and power bars as the day wears on, it results in improved scores. :)

Re: Franklin Leonard

Ha ha, all these metrics make me dizzy!

How about one for number of submissions. I've submitted my 13th different script to Nicholl this year, in 5 tries (years: 2010, 2014-16 and 2019)! What're...

Re: Unpublished short story adaptation

We all need to get over the idea that lawyers "mess" things up.

In fact, lots of us seem to be coming to the conclusion that - skip the manager and agent - you only need an entertainment attorney,...

I keep underestimating LinkedIn, even though I'm already a big fan.

I could have gotten the website, and skipped much of the arcane Googling in the prior post, by searching for the...

Re: Solstice Studios

Well, I'd never heard of them, so if they're worth adding to my 4000+ name database, I figure I'll see what I can find.

Took me about 2 minutes. Here are the steps I followed: (not to boast, just...

Sample info for Martin Chase Productions...

Re: Cut To:

As Bono said, it's a waste of space.

Take out one of those every page, to save maybe a quarter inch, over a 100 page script, and you've saved about 4 pages in length.

I use DISSOLVE TO: where the...

Re: How long does it take you to read a script?

Except for the bit about the color of leaves/I'll see them in the movie, you describe me and my reading (in)ability exactly.

I haven't read a novel in decades nor a long piece of fiction in...

Re: Unable to travel - Seeking advice

Yes, and yes.

And keep writing. There's an old axiom that you don't make it till you've written several scripts. I remember, too, thinking that my second, third and fourth were great. Heck, I...

Re: VPF Virtual Pitch Fest anyone?

Just a heads up, because not everybody tracks these things (or cares), but today VPF has some good pricing:

5 pitches for $50 + 2 free
10 for $90 + 3 free
25 for $189 + 5 free

Not bad deals, for...

Re: What would you do here?

I'm fairly certain they do. My second last copyright was rejected by the U.S. office. I could appeal, they said, but it was $250 more and of course...
