Policies and laws vary, but it is certainly believable and realistic if your character is booted after being stabilized. Hospitals are normally only required to provide treatment for immediately...

INT. TRUNK - DAY

or

INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

Even if the trunk is open, it would be an INT shot if the scene is shot in the trunk.
