Re: Sad reading

My theory is there must be a BIT of a self-fulfilling prophecy happening here.

The peak TV bubble has gobbled up so much of the money and talent. Features only care about IP, everyone says, and...

Re: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Or maybe they're all hard things to write, because writing a believable drama is hard.

The characters in Three Billboards were far from caricatures, and your own narrative of "but there are other...

Re: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

I've learned some lessons from the current political climate. When someone makes an argument that seems impossibly dumb, responding point by point just wastes your time on what's a lost cause 9/10...

Re: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Thought it was brilliant, and my favorite for Best Picture. Only two I didn't see were Phantom Thread and Call Me by your Name.

harbak, most of your complaints are illegitimate and stem from not...

Re: Star Wars Ep 8

I don't want to play the blame game, but it's been an odd feeling as a fan. I really enjoyed TLJ as a stand alone movie, but as a trilogy I only have doubt that it'll all work together in the end....

Re: The Disaster Artist

It was great. Very faithful to the book, though they changed the motivation/perspective of Greg (Mark) a bit to be more movie friendly.

Re: The Disaster Artist

Oh but you must watch The Room.

I've heard, for what it's worth, the film is still good without having done so. But why wouldn't you watch The Room? IT'S THE BEST.

Re: Justice League

Finally watched Man of Steel and Batman v Superman this week for the first time. Surprised at how much I enjoyed both. Superman is one of my least favorite characters, but I loved how much new...

Re: Blade Runner 2049

Well, I'm waiting for video because:

1. I disliked the original Blade Runner
2. The trailer for 2049 gave me nothing to be excited about other than "ooo, pretty."

I usually like when trailers...

Re: American Made

I also thought the cartel blew up the car, but interesting, I guess it could have been the CIA.

Either way, the movie was still remarkably average, and I don't understand the high praise...

Re: American Vandal

Yeah, I loved it. I worried from the beginning that the joke would get old, but they did such a good job getting you invested in the story.

Re: Game of Thrones S7

Littlefinger wasn't interested in chaos for the sake of chaos. It was as a means for him to amass more power for himself (hence the "chaos is a ladder" ...

Re: Atomic Blonde

I'm 30 years old and of at least average intelligence. If I go into a movie stone cold sober, give it my undivided attention, and come out confused: that's the movie's fault, not mine. And this movie...

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I liked Rogue One much more than TFA.

A lot of people talk about Jyn's character as if it's objectively wrong or a screenwriting error. Not every hero needs to check a list of pre-defined boxes....

Re: Arrival

I don't have the energy to say much, but the movie was fantastic. If you like sci fi and don't see this in theaters, you're making a mistake.

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer

So, I had said just about the trailer:

It's out on video now, and I should have known better to rent it when I already had low expectations. But the reviews weren't awful and my friend wanted to...

Re: Sausage Party

I don't think this level of animation would ever make it in a kids' film that's meant to dazzle. It was as basic as it gets, with like no textures or big SFX, along with extremely limited locations....

Re: Sausage Party

No spoilers.

I had one of those awkward theater experiences where nobody was laughing. Silence from a decent crowd, with the occasional half chuckle.

I wasn't laughing either. Would I have if...

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 6

The series is the greatest thing ever put on Television.

Of course it's not TV, it's HBO. But still.

Imagine what could be accomplished if we could harness and redirect all the collective energy that aspiring writers spend analyzing Max Landis.

It could create a cinematic universe larger than...

Re: The Nice Guys

I saw it in an afternoon binge that included Neighbors 2 and X-men Apocalypse.

The Nice Guys was by far the best film in every way that mattered.

It really did feel like a spiritual sequel to...
