  • What percent of spec scripts are sold by NEW writers?

"New" in the sense of being previously unsold.

    I collected the following stats:

Number of spec scripts sold in the past few years:

    2008: 87
    2009: 68
    2010: 55
    2011: 109

    (Source: http://gointothestory.blcklst.com/20...2-contd-2.html)

I assume that almost all of those specs are sold by pros with previous writing credits.

After Googling around, I couldn't get a figure for the number of specs sold by writers who hadn't previously sold a spec (or had a writing assignment).

Maybe 10% is an optimistic guess? Does anyone have the real # -- and a source to back it up?

Found the answer, and now I remember seeing this before:

10 spec sales by newbies in 2011.

Not all that inspiring and not all that surprising either.
