Re: How the hell are they going to release The Beaver?

Who cares what he does in his personal life? Good actor, good director, I'll watch his movies. What he does outside of that--none of my damn business. And noone else's either. Pretty rich that Ari Emanuel is campaigning against Mel, considering all the crap I've heard about him.

i keep thinking she got the idea of recording it from the girl with the dragon tattoo.

You know, I knew that Ari's brother worked with Obama...but never really thought about Mel's comment juxtaposed with that. And it makes perfect sense now why Ari did what he did. I still stand by how a celebrity's personal life should have no bearing on their work, but his actions certainly make sense now.

Separate the artist from their art.

I would certainly understand why people wouldn't want to work with Gibson after this. So it's possible he won't produce any more art with all the burning bridges everywhere. But as an audience member I will never understand why people boycott an artist whose personal life they disagree with. Like snwrist said, it's none of our business. Just like Roman Polanski's actions are none of our business. Unless bigotry or pedophilia are crossing over into their work Gibson and Polanski produce at least some movies that are worthy of attention. If I started selectively ignoring the work of artists who I despise in real life I wouldn't have much left to watch. I'm Jewish and I still went and saw APOCALYPTO after Mel's first outburst. And I'm not quite sold on THE BEAVER yet, but I will go see that Viking one he's directing. Would I have dinner with the guy though? No.

I think it's the last line that matters.

You wouldn't want to spend your evening having dinner with him.
Others don't want to spend their evening watching him on-screen.

The two reactions are closer than you seem to think.

                  Not excusing behavior...

Charlie Sheen was starring on a hit TV show, so it was in their best interests to "forgive" him.

Mel Gibson just starred in a movie that flopped, and is in a new movie that was a tough sell even if Gibson wasn't in trouble... so they can cut their losses with Gibson - which is in their best interests.

It always ends up being about the money.

Tom Cruise needs to be on good behavior for a while.
