  • Movies and their themes...

In the script pages forum, I posted some pages, and the subject of theme came up. I've never approached a script with a solid theme in mind before, and if I had, it was never intentionally.

But from the sounds of things Theme seems to be one of the most important aspects of a script.

So to help me better understand theme name some scripts and their corresponding theme.

Seeing as how Prometheus is brand new. Here's my own take on its theme.

Prometheus - How far would you go to get what you want

    Here are a few:

The mist - fear of the unkown
Inception - Reality is what you perceive it to be
Ides of March - idealism always gives way to pragmatism

Godfather Trilogy -- Family is more important than power.

Inception -- You have to let go of the past to create something new.

Prometheus -- In the search for truth, faith is stronger than science.

Othello -- If you let jealousy infect your mind, it can destroy you.

Apocalypse Now -- War leads to madness.

There Will Be Blood -- Capitalism leads to losing the value of community, family, and ultimately one's humanity.

Jerry Maguire: Loyalty. Or family. My friend and I debated this for a long time.

                  That's not a theme. It's a word...an idea.

                  Theme is a complete sentence.
