  • The Hit List and the Blood List??

    Just saw this on Mandy:

"SpecScout seeks a remote Script Reading Intern to read screenplays and write coverage. In addition to reviewing all the black list, hit list, and blood list scripts, we're also reviewing 95% of the screenplays that sell and 90% of the screenplays actively circulating Hollywood by the largest agencies and management companies."

It's the usual slave/intern gig... but what caught my eye were the references to the "hit list" and "blood list."

I know about the Black List, but what are these others??

OT slightly, but I'm wondering if this is Carson Reeve's ad ... he's looking for free labour for his blog.

(PS: Nope - I was wrong. It's Jason Scoggin's project instead.)

      The Hit List
The Hit List exists to celebrate SPEC SCRIPTS. By focusing exclusively on specs, this list aims to bring recognition to the new material that enters Hollywood, with an eye towards celebrating fresh ideas, new voices, and the emerging talents that make up the largest gambling circuit in all of Hollywood - The Spec Market.

      The Blood List
The Blood List was created in 2009 to bring attention to darker, genre unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. A calendar year for a script to be considered for the list is from October 31st to October 31st. Voting is done by 100 industry insiders. The list is known as the 'Top horror screenplays list' but also has scripts in the sci fi, fantasy, thriller, and dark comedy space as well.

        Thanks, Steven!

So are these lists taken seriously?

Are they just a way for reps to promote their own projects?

        Or what's the real scoop?

My theory is, if you're on these different lists, more people are obviously speaking positively about your material.

I think everyone has different views of these lists, TBH.

There's quite a few around here who are already on this list...

Re: The Hit List and the Blood List??

Blood List and Hit List are both very illegitimate sources of info.

Personally knowing the founders behind both lists, I can assure you that hundreds of CE's vote on their favorite projects for both. I've seen the applications come in. While the Hit List is of course higher profile, the Blood List can get your script exposure and both are always mentioned in Variety and other trades. You're not going to make it on either list unless your script is getting wide circulation though.

Also, we've made the transition over to paid script Readers at Spec Scout, so if anyone wants to apply, PM me and I will share details. To be considered, it's important that you have experience reading scripts and writing coverage. Also, we require that all our paid readers go through 10 hrs of unpaid training before writing their first paid review.
