After writing the outline, is it a good tool to number the scenes? How many of you do? It feels like numbering the scenes gives it a logic, for me.

I often number the scenes in outlines for the same reason, but you never want to number the scenes in the script itself.
That's if you plan to submit the script to someone- if it's for your own project that you will film, no problem. Last edited by johnmonster : 05-14-2010 at 09:29 AM. Reason: clarification |

Anything that helps you write the script is a good idea. Numbered scenes are usually seen in production drafts. Before you submit your script for consideration, just remove the numbers.
40 scenes is the rule of thumb, though that number is so variable that it's almost not worth considering. |

Thanks. Yes, I was just numbering scenes as I write the script to help me be organized and for production purposes. I'd get rid of the numbers if I had to submit it or give to actors, etc.
