LA employment advice

Hi, guys. Here's my situtation. I just graduated from college and moved to LA. I got a job at Fox TV through a temp agency, and they want to keep me. It's not the most exciting gig, but the hours are 8-5 and it's not even ten minutes from home. This allows maximum free time to write. I PA'ed on a movie over the summer and was working 14, 15 hour days.

How beneficial is it to work somewhere closer to industry contacts? Would you LA vets recommend keeping the day job so I can write my little heart out, or trying to find a job more steeped in the "industry?"
