I've had agents and managers in the past -- some big and some small. Unfortunately none worked out. I live outside Los Angeles, which I've found to be a real disadvantage in terms of trying to get assignments. Therefore, agents and managers are less receptive to me; the good ones generally aren't interested in pushing a spec (feature) script for a non-produced writer. They want the path of least resistance, which means produced writers they can sell right away for rewrites, assignments, etc.
I've queried producers on my own in the past -- and I've had decent success. But things have changed and I see it more difficult than ever to get a spec read via cold query. I've won several contests and had some reads and requests based on that, but nothing to write home about. Years ago, I had decent success with InkTip, but I recently tried it and discovered that it doesn't pull the way it used to, even for lower budget fare. I also tried Script Blaster -- and it was a complete bust. So, can anyone recommend any other service that can truly generate requests (assuming the project is commercial and the logline is strong)? I know I will have to continue querying producers (appropriate ones for the specific genre/story -- not via a shotgun approach), but am wondering if there are any query services that actually work. Thanks. |
