Poison, all great points. The problems I've encountered with producers in the past is when they tell me they have private investors already lined up and ready to go on the project. And these are producers with some credits, albeit minor films. What I found out later in all cases was that either they did not have the access to money they said they had -- or they did have it initially and then it fell apart.

So, it is very hard to tell which producers are real and which ones aren't. Even those with credits can turn out to be flakes. That's why I'm advocating getting a little $ up front from them. It's one way of weeding them out (although I also understand that many producers don't have money until they get their financing in place). Just one more Catch 22 in this crazy business.
