Script Length

How long should a comedy script be ? My co-writer and I currently have a 65 page script, during the read through that translated to almost an hour. I've read you need 110-120 pages but we figure at 95 pages the script will be 85 minutes long which is about what we want. So, is it acceptable to send out a 95 page script or is there an industry minimum

For comedies, 90-110 pages is about average, I think. If you've got 95-105, then you're doing good.

Concentrate on writing a fresh and original comedy. Don’t get yourself all bent out of shape over something as ridiculous as 90 pages, 95 pages or 110 pages. If your story is fresh, original, and working, I guarantee you nobody will care how many pages it is. Concentrate on a story hilariously told. As long as you land somewhere between 90 and 120, you’ll be fine.

I've been told readers flip through a script prior to reading it and if it fails that, it's set aside. Bad format... Too much dialog... Not enough dialog... Too long... Too short... Three brass brads... and so forth.

And I believe it, too. Okay they'll probably overlook the third brass brad. Download some produced scripts and scan then. They are amazingly similar.

Shoot for 110 +/- 5 pages and you're safe with every genre. Comedies can be a little shorter and Dramas a little longer.

Don't give them an excuse not to read it.
