It's been hit and miss this season, but the last episode (the pillow vs. blanket forts) was a return to form. I just wish they'd played that episode on their return when they had their best ratings ever, as they might have retained more viewers.

I thought it was another miss, but that's just me. Until that final slow-mo look between Abed and Troy, I didn't see much redeeming in the episode. The Abed-Troy relationship has gotten so cheesy and over-the-top I cringe when the two are on screen. Brita's character has been destroyed as well. Pretty much only Annie hasn't been turned into some caricature by the writing staff.

I've been very unhappy with most of Season 3, with the exceptions of Chaos Theory, Christmas and Documentary II.
Community seems to be best in the stand-alone, genre episodes. The serialized story of Community doesn't really do it for me. I don't care about Chang's work as a secuirty guard or who's the father of Shirley's baby. I enjoyed parts of the impersonators episode, but overall, I haven't be wowed by anything since they came back from hiatus. |

Unfortunately, this wasn't always the case. Season 1 had some awesome serialized episodes. The one with Pierce's weird racist play in Chang's class springs to mind, but there were plenty. It hit pretty much all season that year. Since then, they have really taken the characters too far in whichever direction they were leading - so the characters are just too absurd to put in anything other than parody or standalone episodes at this point. The showrunner has really let the wheels come off - but I'm sure they'll keep us all sucked in as they churn out a true classic every five episodes or so. |

AMAZING episode tonight. One of the best episodes by far in the series. This was on the level of D&D, Paintball and Season 1 eps.
The war style documentary was so well done. I loved it. Kudos to the Community team with Dan Harmon. |

If they set out to do a 1-for-1 parody of one of the easiest styles to parody, then they did that. Of course, there are high schoolers doing that for history projects right now. So I wouldn't hand out Kudos to Dan Harmon unless you're also willing to hand it out to any teenager with a handycam & iMovie. Unfortunately, I thought they forgot to make it funny. There were about two funny bits in the whole damn show (IMO, the Jeff-Annie stuff). And the Abed-Troy stuff is just terrible now. Nails on chalkboard bad. |

To me, there just weren't any funny bits in the episode. It was just another parody.
I thought this past week's episode was much better. Though still leaning towards on-the-nose - and just trying too hard to have a point, or a message. But at least it was back to being funny again. |
