It's a non-essential issue and really a writers perogative to use it in the beginning and "FADE OUT" at the end. But's it's not mandatory or essential to your script.
It's a transitional term. use it as such... |

I still tend to use it. But yeah -- looks like it's being phased out along with FADE OUT...

Just got notes back on my script from the production company. They actually did have a few format-related notes. They didn't, however, mention the odd way in which I started and ended the script. Also, they attached to the script regardless of the few formatting issues they did have. That's good enough proof for me that format just doesn't matter a whole lot.

i never understood it myself, you're telling them the movie is starting... on page 1. unless i want something special to happen, it doesn't have to fade, it can just start.
that being said, as often as i want to cheat and reclaim that line in my script, i always just use it. Who knows, it may get in the hands of one of the "rules" people and not having those two words might be held against me from the jump. |
