I have a pdf program that allows me to highlight selected text in yellow.
I would like a program that allows highlighting and saving selected text in assorted colors. Does anyone know of such a program? Thanks!! |

Acrobat Pro allows you to change the color of the highlight tool by selecting tool properties.

If you open an image in Photoshop it would rasterize and render the pdf as a bitmap so the text wouldn't be selectable -- but you could do it in Illustrator.

I do not even use Adobe Reader. I use the free PDF-XChange Viewer, which lets you do all kinds of markups in different colors.
Actually, I own the commercial version of the whole program, but I started out with the free reader, and I used it for marking things in different colors and even adding colorful text. Yes, even the free version lets you do this. Much nicer than the bloated Adobe Reader, not even to get into the whole issue of how outrageously expensive Adobe is for its commercial products.

Adobe Reader X (free) has a highlight tool. The default color is yellow, but you can change the color.
Click Comment | right-click Highlight Text | click Tool Default Properties | click on your new color. I need to check out PDF-XChange. I have used the free Foxit Reader, but discovered that if you do more than some unknown (to me) number of notes/highlights, it stamps "Foxit" on every page and there's no undo for that. |

PDF-XChange is not "nagware" that tries to get you to buy.
It has a few disabled features that you don't get unless you buy the product, but I used the free version for weeks or months before I bought the program, and I never found any problems.

Thanks again. I downloaded the free pdf x-change and it has a lot of highlight colors. It's already helping so much.
So far I haven't found an easy way to change colors (I think it's about 5 steps each time) but there might be one. |

Lifehacker agrees with Comic. Also has good pro/non-pro version breakdown.

Thanks for that link, Anagram!
I think I discovered PDF-XChange by accident, about two years ago. I used it for a while. I was amazed at how much you could do with a free program. And it was blazingly fast! After a while, I decided to buy the professional program, even though I already had the Nuance program. I ended up using both of them. Now I have a new computer, and I did not even try to go through the steps to get authorization for the Nuance program, even though I think highly of it. Instead, I sent an email to Support at Tracker Software (the PDF-XChange company), and a nice man named Stefan told me how to download the current version. I was able to use my same registration number with it. I cannot speak more highly of this program. As for Adobe, I get some kind of "update" for Adobe Flash or the Adobe Reader all too often. I just let it load, because it is too much trouble to keep fighting it off. If a new version of Adobe Reader loads onto your computer, it will probably reset your file associations to use Adobe Reader. If that happens, just open PDF-XChange, and you should get a Dialog Window that will ask if you want to use PDF-XChange as your default reader. I had to do this the other day after Adobe loaded a newer version of its bloatware onto my computer.
