Including real archival footage

Weird question. Tried it a couple of ways.

Hypothetical scenario.

Your script is about TOM CRUISE and it stars Tom Cruise as Tom Cruise... like Being John Malkovich let's say.

But in the script you want to include and actual clip from Cruise appearing on David Letterman for example.

Do you transcribe the actual appearance (the part you want to show) or how would you handle this?

Currently it reads something like this

ARCHIVE FOOTAGE

SUPER: Late Show With David Letterman Oct 1995

Crowd applauds as Tom Cruise shakes Letterman's hand.

LETTERMAN
Is there gonna be a Top Gun sequel?

TOM CRUISE
Of course, if we find the right story to tell.

Goes on from there...
and no I am not actually writing a Tom Cruise movie. Just have a similar scenario I need to resolve.

I think you're handling it in a clear way. I'm not entirely convinced you need the "ARCHIVE FOOTAGE" part, but what you have definitely works.
