What do you guys know about this contest? If it's good then I'm considering entering, but I've never really seen it on anyone's list of contests.

Looks pretty bad. Of course, it might be 100% legit.
But it just look bad. For a start it appears to have been launched in August last year - so any claims about "Over $10,000.00 in Cash and Prizes awarded every year" appears to be slightly .. umm... untruthful. (Unless, of course, they genuinely did award $10,000 in cash & prizes in 2011 but forgot to mention it to anyone) The claim about being "The New York Screenplay Contest is New York's biggest screenplay competition and among the top screenplay contests in the world" also appears at first blush to be ...err... less than honest. (If they'd stated 'best' then that can claim it is actionless puffery - but 'biggest' is something that can be measured by various metrics.) Of course it may not be untruthful so much as what some people refer to as an 'aspirational statement', rather than one that reflects current reality. According to their registration at 'Without a box' the team behind it is:
This seems like every other get-rich-quick-by-running-a-screenplay-competition-scheme out there. All we have left is the call-out on Craigslist for judges & readers ! Mac (Note - the copyright statement on the website is 2010. That might indicate that, if truthful, the contest has already awarded $20,000 in Cash (and Prizes)) This reminds me of one sad example of another YASC where the company running the competition had no cash so gave away shares in itself as 'prizes' - claiming that the stock had value of at least $20,000 ! Very tragic. But not as tragic as New York Screenplay's Contest's incredibly sad marketing attempts.)

Thanks guys. Yeah it felt fishy but I figured I'd ask anyway. Jojo, I'm from "near the big city" as well!
