I live 13 miles south east of downtown LA (really far, right?) and on a horrid day, it'll take an hour and a half to get back to Downey (my crap city) by car. When gas was almost $5 a gallon, I researched how long it'd take me to get to work. 2.5 hours by metro (green/blue/red line and bus), so I just drove because it'd be less taxing on my sanity. Cool story, bro, but yeah.

I always encourage people to enjoy our well-orchestrated mass transit system. Helping to lower the load on our planet is what being responsible stewards of our environment is all about, isn't it?
And with each person who embraces this, my daily commute through the g** d***** m***** f****** s***storm known as the 405/Sepulveda pass becomes just a tiny bit less hellish and inches me back ever so slightly from the precipice. |

![]() Till then, zoom zoom zoom. Road rage gets the blood flowing in the morning. It's better than P90X.

It sounds like you need to get the WGA to start up a Night Bus transit like in Harry Potter films, for wayward writers. To hail the bus, a writer need only stick his/her MacBook Pro in the air in the same manner that a non-writer might do to hail a taxi. |

Metro for me. $6 for a trip from the Westside to Burbank, air conditioned buses, no road rage. Sure, you have to plan it out more, but to me, it's more about the adventure.

What about places like Mexico and Japan, along with cities bigger than L.A. Do they have traffic problems like L.A? |

I was born and raised in L.A. County. Driving is just a way of life that is tolerated. No need to complain, you just have to accept. Resistance or denial is futile.
I stopped taking buses when I got my driver's license at 15 1/2. I didn't step back on a bus until I moved to San Francisco 20 years later.
