  • Haunting, Atmospheric Music To Write To...

I'm one of those music dependent writers.

I'm working on a scary, intense set piece and I'm running low on haunting, atmospheric music to write to. Any suggestions?

    Gracias.

              +1

Some of my other favorite go-to composers/albums for this kind of work:

Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross): Ghosts l-lV - 4 glorious discs of eerie, atmospheric, sometimes beautiful sometimes scary instrumentals; The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack.

Clint Mansell: The Fountain soundtrack; Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, Moon soundtrack.

Hans Zimmer: Inception soundtrack, Batman Begins/TDK soundtracks.

              Happy listening!

The original OMEN movie. Music still scares the sh!t out of me.

IMO church music, priests praying in the background set to demonic acts is scary.

Anything Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. Especially the soundtrack for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford... great, emotional, moving, evocative music.

                      Clint Mansel.

                      Thomas Newman.

It's not from a movie, but the video game Bioshock had a pretty fantastic score. Definitely worth a listen.

The album WAS available for free on the official game's site, but I think it has since been removed.

I'd start with The Mission (Ennio Morricone) and graduate into Into the Wild (Eddie Vedder). I defy anyone to write while listening to either of those soundtracks and NOT produce something brilliant.
