  • Netflix' "Don't F**k With Cats-

Whoa. Well done on the production side, but nevertheless, as far as subject matter goes, well ... whoa.

This limited series of three episodes seems a lot like any detective(s)-versus-murderer movie except that it’s real-life action.

It’s also a cautionary tale of vanity, depravity, and how much some people “love” and worship movies and their stars.

Personally, as someone with a lifelong love for animals as pets and care for their well-being, I enjoyed seeing this degenerate psychopath brought to justice. What is disturbing is the online community’s mob mentality over it, particularly when they drive one erroneous mark to the brink and suicide.

    Articles with relatively few spoilers:

If you have children of any age, be sure they are not in the room when you do watch it. There would be a lot of explaining for you to do if you chose to allow that to happen. BTW & FYI: it has very little to do with movies at all.

I watched it this weekend with my 17 yo daughter. We looked away when the three cat killing videos and one murder of a man video played.

It's a haunting reminder that reality is stranger than fiction. The editing created an awesome thriller pace even more emotionally intense because it was real.
Advice from writer, Kelly Sue DeConnick. "Try this: if you can replace your female character with a sexy lamp and the story still basically works, maybe you need another draft.-

Question: What did you think of the ending when cyber sleuth Baudi Moovan (Deanna Thompson) speaks to the camera and says that "we" (including herself) are to blame for giving the killer attention and egging him on?

It was quite a reversal from the rabid bloodthirstiness they displayed in trying to stop a cruel cat killer (only a misdemeanor in most parts of the U.S. until recently). That kind of online “piling on” looked akin to cyberbullying. They were pet owners and animal lovers, so they felt righteous in their cause. By story’s end, it seemed they felt guilty that they made him “graduate” to killing a person. Kudos to the documentary filmmakers for parsing out the story for a satisfying conclusion in one respect but not another, almost the same way a feature film story sometimes ends with the hero not getting what they want, only what they need. In this documentary, the gang of cyber-sleuths, collectively, were the hero.
