Aside from Dinklage, who's just literally floating exposition, there are only four other characters in the entire game, who you see for maybe two minutes each.

Problem is they have one main person writing the backbone for all of their games, and as the industry evolved with games like Last of Us, Bungie didn't. They think having a story equates to "upload/download data from the ______ array because [reasons]". Plot by sci fi mad libs.

Fun game though, if you ignore all that.
I do love the gameplay. I want to go home and play right now. Dumb day job.

I think it's also a problem of writing a singular narrative of a single player storyline vs. creating a MMO-like world. This is where video games need to give up the keys to cinematic story telling and start to develop their own voice.

But what it boils down to is that I think they need to reassess the mindset of people playing the game. I'm going in to do this mission whether or not there's a good story to it. Give me a backstory as to why. Nothing overly complicated (sometimes going into missions, the VO makes me wonder what these people are even talking about). And maybe try to make it fun.

The live action Destiny commercials are much better than anything in the actual game.

They had good writers and they didn't listen to them. They had great story written, and they didn't use it. That is just plain unfortunate. Boo.

I tried playing, but didn't know what I was doing there, so gave up (in a story sense, I mean).

Well, good thing this kind of stuff doesn't happen in film and television.

          FYI:

UCLA Extension is offering a course on writing for video games. Cost is about $600 and starts soon.
