  • Superimpose, legend, title card?

So I've resurrected an old trunk script for a clean-up, and on the 1st page, I used "legend" to indicate time and place.

Basically, after an establishing shot of a desert, it read:

LEGEND: NEVADA NUCLEAR TEST SIGHT, 1955

Honestly, I don't use these often, but since I want this baby to look good for a last-ditch effort to market it, what should I do? Should I leave it as is, use the word "SUPER" instead of legend, or can I just insert it in the scene heading like this:

EXT. NEVADA NUCLEAR TEST SIGHT (1955) - DAY

    Thanks in advance!

Shoot. Just realized this should be in the basics section. Sorry, guys.

For whatever it's worth, I'm used to SUPER in this situation.

If you just have a regular scene heading, the script reader will see it, but it won't be on the screen for the audience to see. Do you want it written on screen? It's your call.

      Oh, and it's TEST SITE.

        Concur. On both counts.

As I look back through scripts, I see that I've done it a few ways. As always, I would lean towards clarity and speed. To that end, I've been using either...

GRAPHIC: NEVADA NUCLEAR TEST SITE, 1955

WRITTEN: NEVADA NUCLEAR TEST SITE, 1955

If you want it to be written on the screen use super, I think it's pretty standard.

EXT. NUCLEAR TEST SITE -- DAY

            SUPER: Las Vegas, 1955

Description about the nuclear test site.

I use SUPER: if it's one line... and though I don't know if I've ever done it, might use LEGEND: if there was a paragraph of stuff like in STAR WARS.

                Have you tried SUPER LEGEND?

I'm kinda confused. Are you wanting the words to appear on screen? Or are you created a Scene Heading? Or both? I think it is a SUPER. At any rate:

                  Scene Heading:

EXT. NEVADA TEST SITE - DAY (1955)

                  Superimposition:

                  SUPER: "Nevada Test Site, 1955"

I just bold that kinda sh!t, put it on its own line, italicize it, and put some quotes around it.

If i'm feeling really frisky, I'll center it, but usually I don't.
