Right, but he did manage to turn that attitude/style into a very enviable career. And like I said, it seems to work with his personality. It wouldn't for mine.

I didn't mean to present it as a good idea, or a bad one. It was just an interesting and different style I wanted to share. Mainly because I think it does illustrate the point that we writers are sort of taught to accept that we are easily disposable.

While that is true to an extent, the fact is that a good writer is rare. And after reading as much as I can from those on the other side of the fence, it seems that some of the things we writers believe as truths aren't really true at all. Sure, professionalism is very important, so please don't interpret any of this out of that context.

People who think they are good writers are not so rare. and these are generally the nutcases who request their scripts back, and who prodcos are happy to oblige.

Don't know the guy you are referring to, obviously, and I'll take your word for it he has a career. But if he does he is double lucky after taking that attitude.

Dave, that's an interesting nod here...But as far as you know, how many writers got a recommend/consider after reminding the firm/studio/whoever?

I don't view him as a nut case. I think it's a personal thing - if you have the balls to pull it off, you probably can. Though I think very, very few people in the world have the balls to approach the industry quite that way. Like I said, I don't.

But I still think that the story has some value. Have some balls and don't be so afraid to get a door slammed in my face. The meek may inherit the earth, but they definitely don't get anywhere in Hollywood.

Roscoe if my agents demanded my script back because it hadn't been read in two weeks I'd fire their a$$es. This is a game of opening doors, not closing them.

If you're 'A' list, then you can start pulling sh1t like that. In the real world all that will happen is the exec will smirk as he says ' Jeez, another God's Gift to writing' and flags your name as as a 'no thanks ' for the future.

No one is saying be meek. But a polite reminder will go a lot further than a prima donna stunt. Seriously.

DMNY - apart from me? Just about everyone I know. In fact I made close on $80,000 after they took 8 weeks to read a script, 3 reminders and then hired me to write on the strength of the script.

Dave thanks for the answer.
You are in the UK aren't you? And if so, did you have to fly to LA?
