Pen, you overestimated the I.Q. of this group by a mile.

If we're getting into the realm of 'suppossed to have been cast', well then, that opens up a whole other can of worms. I mean, going back to Bette Davis as Scarlett O'hara...
        Um...no. We're not.

My post was in response to Beef Missile's which said that Tom Selleck should've played Indiana Jones. He was origially offered the part but had to turn it down, so it then went to Ford.

I didn't know if Beef knew that already and was just re-emphasizing, or if he didn't know and his casting choice was pure coincidence.

They should've made the Flash Gordon remake five years ago so that Matthew McConnahey could've played the role. Don't know who they're going to cast now.

Roles that went to the wrong actor

I've got a doozy fer ya. Robert DeNiro as Frankenstein's Monster.

Okay, I've got a lot of issues with this movie, but . . . DeNiro as the monster? I know he's a great actor and all. He can act mad. He can act sullen. He can act crazy. He can act depressed. He can be very threatening. He can do all four of those things at once. He can even be funny. He can act Italian. (Okay, he doesn't have to act for that one.)

But one thing he absolutely cannot do is act tall. What is he, like five seven or something?

Was I the only guy in the world who read the book? In the book, the monster was eight feet tall. So you need a TALL guy who can act to play the monster. How about Vince Vaughn? Hell, Will Smith would have been a better choice than Bobby DeNiro.

Re: Roles that went to the wrong actor

Good one on DeNiro. How about this one:

                        Thomas Jane as the Punisher.

                        A) Thomas gives up 70 pounds on the rock-solid Dolph from the original film version. That just spells "wimpy."

                        B) Don't hire a guy named JANE to play a bad-ass.

                        C) He's wearing his kid's skull t-shirt? He IS tiny.

Guy never looked threatening. Never sounded threatening. Never WAS threatening. I want the punisher to give me one look, and have me wet my pants. That's how bad-ass he should be.

Grant as Sgt. Archibald Cutter was hardly transcendent. Cagney, on the other hand, would've been sans pareil.

"You dirty Thuggee rat, howdja like that?"

Oh so there ya are ya white livered elephant stealing treasure hunter. Lookatcha! Hanging there like a dirty rat in a butcher shop!

Makes me think of Cagney's famous joke in that acceptance speech -

"I never said you dirty rat. What I did say was Judy, Judy, Judy"

There is only one Archie Cutter
