    Re: Confessions: I havn't seen...

I am astonished that people are calling Heat overrated. It must be one of the most underrated movies.

Maybe you have to watch it a few times to really pick up what you might have missed the first time. Sure, it's not a "mind-blower," but it is a fantastic film with incredible performances.

      Re: Confessions: I havn't seen...

Pacino was dreadfully over the top in HEAT. The cops in general in HEAT were way less interesting than the crooks.

The robbery scenes/the robbery planning scenes were all stellar.

The personal stuff got a little hokey.

Still a great movie. Too long. Could have been better. It's doesn't take a 20 minute subplot to humanize characters. Sometimes that's overkill.

After multiple attempts, still haven't got through Big Lebowski or Superbad.

Not seen Avatar, but have it on DVD. Been too busy watching River Monsters on Netflix.

Not seen Beautiful Mind yet all the way through, same with Fight Club and Crash.

I haven't gotten around to Casablanca or Citizen Kane yet. To date the only Hitchcock film I've seen is Strangers on a Train. Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Tried to get through them but find the films to be immensely boring. Shawshank, Green Mile and Schindler's List still need to be watched. Besides those glaring errors I think I'm pretty well covered.

Okay, using the IMDb Top Twenty as a reference, I haven't seen:

            SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
            GODFATHER II
            12 ANGRY MEN
            THE SEVEN SAMURAI
            CITY OF GOD
            GOODFELLAS

Or any Pixar movie, for that matter. Although I've walked out of a couple...

Wow dude, I thought EVERYONE had seen Shawshank by now.

              Okay I'll play:

Never seen a Harry Potter movie.

Never seen a Pirates of Caribbean movie.

              Never saw Titanic.

Didn't laugh once when I saw Tootsie.

Can't make it through 2001: A Space Odyssey without falling asleep.

Found North by Northwest to be dreadfully boring.

              Butch Cassidy bored me.

              Felt Crash was self-indulgant.

I love Saving Silverman and Just Friends.

Can't Buy Me Love is better than anything John Hughes ever did.

Point Break is fifty times more awesome than Point Blank.

              And finally...

That chick Randall "Pink" Floyd made out with at the moon tower was way hotter than Joey Lauren Adams or Parker Posey.

                The Godfather
(I love mafia type stuff, but this just doesn't appeal to me)

                Twilight
(that goes for any of them)

                Schindler's List
(I own it on DVD, but can't bring myself to watch it)

                True Grit
(I'll get to it one day)

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
(fell asleep half way through one night, and haven't had a chance to go back. Figured I'd wait for Fincher's take)

                Toy Story 3
(loved the previous two. Will find the time one day for this)

                The Usual Suspects
(for some reason I missed it, and never felt compelled to watch it. I probably should)

Heat? Personally, I find it to be one of my favorite films. It has a certain kind of...I dunno, richness that you don't often see in crime movies much these days. It's not perfect, and I agree in saying it could have been a little shorter, but it is what it is, and the performances are solid.

                  Seven Samurai
                  Godfather III
                  Lawrence of Arabia
                  Breakfast at Tiffanys

I've also never seen a single Woody Allen movie. Not one.

I *have* seen at least 39 of the bottom 100 on IMDB - maybe more, but if I didn't recognize the title I didn't go to the trouble of reading the synopsis.

If it's a failure to find these classic films, it's sad; but, if it's an aversion to explore films and drama beyond the limits of the cineplex at the shopping mall, it's a pity.

I worry that many aspiring screenwriters might never have watched a stage play, a Broadway musical, nor an opera, (preferring instead to browse the popular selections at the local video outlet and comic book shop). This may fit into the core audience of Hollywood films, (lately), but to elaborate upon one's limited education in one's craft would appear counterproductive.
