I think you guys might be a little insane. It was a great decade. If you can't love modern films, how can you expect to write modern films?

Re: Best Year in Film 2000-2011?
I have enjoyed and or appreciated some of the films listed by others. Some lists are so long that the list is meaningless with no films standing out above the rest.
'Best of' lists are okay, I guess, especially given the title of the thread. But I'm still curious about films that capture the spirit of the times (2000s).
Perhaps THE DARK KNIGHT might be one. Many hailed it as the greatest super hero movie ever made. However, to me it represented a time in our history when adults needed a super hero movie more than kids. Personally, that scared me. I look forward to a time when caped heroes in silly rubber costumes are better suited to entertaining children rather than the so-called adults of a particular generation. What psychological/social need did TDK fill in millions of so-called adults that made that movie so successful? Tough times we're living in when adults need a super hero to believe in more than children.
But then I could be totally wrong about that observation. Time will tell.

Re: Best Year in Film 2000-2011?
Using my Top 100 Movies of 2000-2009 list, I determined that my favorite year is 2002 with 18 films accruing 811 points (giving 100 points to #1, 99 points to #2 and so on).
Of course, part of the reason for that was that it was the year I was living in Los Angeles and I was seeing movies constantly.
Here's the films from 2002 that made my Top 100 list...
About a Boy
Better Luck Tomorrow
Blue Car
The Bourne Identity
Bowling for Columbine
Catch Me If You Can
Changing Lanes
The Emperor’s Club
I Am Trying to Break Your Heart
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Max
Narc
Nine Queens
The Pianist
Punch-Drunk Love
Secretary
The 25th Hour
Unfaithful
And then there's also films like...
About Schmidt
Adaptation
Auto Focus
The Believer
Below
The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys
The Good Girl
The Kid Stays in the Picture
Possession
Rabbit-Proof Fence
Road to Perdition
Roger Dodger
The Rules of Attraction
Spider-Man
Spirited Away
Talk to Her
24 Hour Party People
(I think I got these all correct in terms of the USA theatrical release dates. IMDB goes by first screenings anywhere in the world, even if it's at a festival/competition. So a film like CITY OF GOD doesn't count.)
Such a good year. You wouldn't know it looking at the Oscar noms that year, where mediocre "prestige" films like CHICAGO, GANGS OF NEW YORK and THE HOURS bogarted the nominations.Last edited by TheKeenGuy; 10-10-2011, 10:26 PM.
