Best Independent Film will go to Midnight In Paris, and Best Adapted Screenplay will probably go to The Descendants.

I have a feeling The Artist will come away with best original.

        Re: Best Screenplay

i've only read one, The Descendants so i'm going with that for best adapted.
i'm torn between Midnight in Paris and The Artist and believe that they will split the vote and Margin Call will sneak through... although i haven't seen it or even know what it's about.

          Re: Best Screenplay

I liked the pace and the dialog of Margin Call a lot. Also, the inside workings of an investment bank were portrayed rather well, although that's probably due to the director having done his research.

Haven't seen The Artist, yet. I guess it must be difficult for the voters to compare a silent movie with the other nominated movies, though.

In the end, isn't it all about campaigning anyway? I heard The Weinsteins have been good at that... The Artist then?

I saw a pretty strange trailer for it before The Artist...not sure what it's even about, but the fact that it's a foreign film nominated for a screenplay Oscar has me intrigued.

I haven't seen the trailer yet, just the whole movie in Berlin. The movie was definitly the best movie i've seen this year. Its a wonderfully crafted, tense, dense movie, and the script (dialogue, characters, theme, pacing) is excellent. It can be defined as a "social thriller".
It's not only an "art house" feature (which has earn many awards), since the audience liked it (in France, for exemple, 900 000 people saw it, which is a good number).

A Separation was very good. but do the voters get to read the screenplay or do they just vote from the film? anyway, i don't think it has a chance b/c old white men might get tired of reading so much, so fast... there was a lot of fast talking. it was a bit long, but the story was really good.

The winners will be ARTIST and HUGO tonight. ARTIST is part of the sweep, HUGO because everyone loves Marty.

Still have to see A SEPARATION.

Did anyone else do shots with the Bridesmaids when they yelled Scorsese? Hilarious.
