  • Avatar Blu-Ray / DVD Released on Earth Day (4/22/10)

    For anyone interested:

    4/22/10 - Blu-Ray / DVD Combo - Just the movie (2D) in 1.8 aspect ratio to maintain Imax format presentation. No extras. Combo includes both 1080p Blu-Ray, and standard 480p DVD copy.

    Then...

    November, 2010 - Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray / DVD. 2D movie, Extras and the movie possibly in the 2.35:1 aspect cinemascope ratio.

    January, 2011 - Avatar 3D. The 3D version of the movie for 3D Blu-Ray and Home theater systems.

    Hearing this is being re-released in the summer with 6 brand new minutes of footage.

      Over here in Holland it got released a day earlier (today).
      Already watched it. As expected, looks AWESOME on Blu-ray.
      Only, it's indeed a no frills/ bare bones disc.
      The version with all the extra's etc comes out November.
      Which of course is a rip off...but I'll probably end up buying it anyway.
      I'm a sucker, I know.

        Does the current Blu-ray release have any additional footage? I read it was supposed to have an extra 4 mins at the beginning, showing Jake on Earth, etc. Or am I thinking of the November release?

            I'm sure that's what you were supposed to do. The billboards I'm seeing around LA carefully say nothing about the fact that this is only the first of three DVD releases.
