Re: Manager showing my first screenplay this week

Some really interesting stuff happening now...
    Talked to my manager and...

The Director of Development at another production company (which has two big movies out this year) said regarding my screenplay -- get this -- "Best script I've read in years!" and has bumped it up to the major guys there.
    That's what manager said.

    Can you dig that?!

We've yet to hear back from 8 other companies but manager says that is a good sign since a hard pass comes quick.

    I'm in shock...
    Manager is really stoked.

            Maybe... or...

            1. My manager heard wrong or is exaggerating.
            2. The development person was confused about what script she read.
            3. Someone is lying.

            4. Maybe it really is good.

            Please 4, please 4, please 4!

Re: Manager showing my first screenplay this week

Back to work in Hollywood it seems now.
Talked to manager today. Overall good news.
To refresh -- after five weeks -- the screenplay has gone out to 12 production companies (all big time producers -- some, the very biggest).
4 have passed but manager calls them "positive passes" because people liked the story and writing but for various reasons could not embrace the project. They are also interested in meeting with me in person when I come down in the future.
2 production companies have bumped the screenplay upwards and we're waiting to hear further news from those parties. Fingers crossed.
That leaves 6 parties we have yet to hear from.
At this rate it's not unreasonable to say we could get 1 or 2 more interested parties out of the 6 remaining -- which would be good. And of course there are hundreds of production companies in Hollywood, right?
The best part of the manager talk is my other project mentioned above may get a director attached before bringing it to a studio. Making a stronger package. It already has a finished screenplay. So that's good news.

Very exciting, being part of the Hollywood machine. But of course I've only seen its good side so far.

Re: Manager showing my first screenplay this week

Back in the day George Lucas sent 10 Ralph McGuire (sp?) illustrations with his initial submission of Star Wars (which if you read the version, sucked big-time) to the studios.

This is what got the picture on the map.
At the time, Sc-Fi was defined by movies like Logan's Run, 2001 Space Odessy, Planet Of The Apes, Star Trek, When World's Collide, etc.
                        Old school stuff.

Lucas envisioned a whole new "used future" look and feel.
It was completely original (back then at least).
And for all you people 30 and under--it was revolutionary back then.

So if you have a new take.
If you got something that needs to be 'splained visually.
                        You are good to go.

Especially now that comics are all the rage.
And you being an illustrator/writer--makes you a demi-god now.

And I have been looking for someone to turn a sci-fi screenplay of mine into a graphic novel.
I'd love to buy you lunch. lol!
