i never saw Michael Keaton's other newsroom pic, "The Paper" but I feel comfortable saying it probably doesn't hold a candle to this true story of the Boston Globe's breaking a story on rampant sexual abuse in the city's Catholic archdiocese.

when the ensemble includes Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schrieber, John Slattery, and Stanley Tucci, the acting isn't in question. what the script does so well, like All The President's Men, is make the uncovering of the story as compelling as the story itself. the story starts with one priest, one case and once Keaton's team starts pulling that thread, scraping becomes digging which becomes excavation on a scope none of them could have foreseen at the outset . . . well, almost none of them. all the while, never losing sight of the emotional impact of these crimes on the victims and the city of Boston itself.
