          Just finished:

The Pirates of Somalia: Inside Their Hidden World - Jay Bahadur
...why pirates REALLY become pirates (maybe cuz foreign trawlers are bottom-stripping their fishing grounds?) and the distorted view we get of Somalia.

          Reading now:

The Unconquered: In Search of the Amazon's Last Uncontacted Tribes -
          Scott Wallace
...the REAL story of the struggle of uncontacted tribes to survive vs. that silliness which is "The River."

          Next up:

Thinking Fast and Slow - Daniel Kahneman
...why we make irrational decisions!!! Like maybe writing...well...you know...

Re Scott Wallace/ Tribes, did you see the recent media shots of the tribe on the move in SA, they mentioned, if I recall, that there are still approximately 100 such tribes, still operating alone, you'd think that fact was an impossibility given our crowded world.

nb-I'm also reading - The Spanish Armada. The Great Enterprise against England 1588. by Angus Konstam.

                        Screenplay: Category 6
Non-Fiction: Battle Cry of Freedom, by James McPherson (Civil War history, re-read)
On Deck: Landscape Turned Red, by Stephen Sears (non-fiction on the Battle of Antietam in the Civil War, re-read)

Going through a phase of re-reading my Civil War history books, what can I say. Before this, I was on a Mafia kick, re-reading The Godfather and reading Boss of Bosses, the Paul Castellano story.

And a million different short stories. So far this week: Tennessee Williams, Peter Carey, Annie Proulx, Frank Moorhouse.

Just bought a John Steinbeck Omnibus with all his shorter novels.

                          Best investment I've ever made...

Keep trying to find a Steinbeck Omnibus but couldn't identify one. I've only seen say, THE SHORT NOVELS, a paperback by Minerva from 1992.... 600+ pages. Which would do!

I've had the big 4 in Penguin for a long time - Grapes, Mice, East' and Cannery.... but I'd like to read everything by Steinbeck I can get my hands on, but it's finding a comprehensive edition...
