  • VidAngel $62 Million Judgement Against...

i just cannot fathom how VidAngel feels they have the right to literally steal IP without consequence. AND they feel strongly that they can win on appeal? something seriously wrong here.

    any thoughts?

Their service required that you had to buy the original film in its original format. Then they would allow you to watch the movie with the filters you select. It was pretty amazing, actually.

ah, i see. they didn't include that in the Deadline article. it looks like they were ordered to shut down in 2016 then came out with their current line up of streamers. it looks legit, because they use the "connect your streamer services,"-- as if the streamers have agreed to allow it, but someone commented that they were "renting out" videos illegally prior to the 2016 demand to shutdown. i don't know enough to say.

but... it seems apparent that the big streamers could add "filtering" as a service to increase their own market basket, and essential put VidAngel out of the game, no?

smart concept. i can see that people would want to use it.

When I first heard of this (years ago?) it seemed the auteurs were simply upset that their beloved scenes and dialogue were being tampered with. So long as the money was forthcoming, I never understood that. If the general piece was being made available to more audiences (and more money forthcoming), what's the problem?

On the other hand, I'd be pretty upset if somebody made porn versions of my stories, without my consent, even if it did mean more $$$.
