Default How many query e-mails do you send?

Exactly that: how many do you fire off and what is your reply rate?
Actually, how many out of every, say, 10, ask to read the script?

I've read a few posts wherein users here (and other sites) have mentioned sending out numbers into the hundreds!
If the logline and query letter itself make a compelling case to tempt a read request, does geographical location then become a factor? Or is it all plain luck?

Hundreds would be accurate in my case. As for the reply rate, sometimes I get 2 out of 5 and then 0 out of a 100.

You never know if they even read your email or if it went to spam or they just deleted it without reading.

Sometimes the most targeted queries remain unresponded and the response comes from the most unexpected places.

My experience is that it's a numbers game, as probably many here will tell you.

And I still don't have representation, so that we're clear

Thanks for your post, but I'm afraid I wasn't entirely clear. I meant how many queries per script?

When I read somewhere how someone has sent out 100 or 320 queries, I wonder where the hell they're finding all these contacts (and how many of the recipients are in a position to aid their cause).

Well, I'm afraid that 'per script' is what I meant as well.

Of course you can be more lucky and achieve your goal by only sending 20. You never know.

As for how many of the recipients can help, the answer is, in my opinion, from none to all. If someone loves your idea and then your script, they will represent you or buy the script. If they don't, they won't.

The contacts are out there. You just have to find them.

Am I to infer then that people are querying multiple staff within the same company?

Damn, I must be stupid but I always figured that rude - offering something to, say, two managers in the same firm, for them to squabble over, should they both be interested.

Or maybe that comes across as arrogant when written that way?

I guess I always assumed that people talked. Gertrude may not like the idea too much but knows that her colleague, Hector, is bang into John Woo-stylised action scripts so asks him by the coffee machine, "Hey, this query came in... I can forward it to you if you like?"

My read-request rate is one in ten. And I also wonder how people are finding so many people to query, but I'm only targeting managers and a few agencies at this point.

Hundreds per script. I sent out about 350, had under 20 that requested it right away. Two wanted to represent me. One I had already signed with when the other called me. He said he was really bummed😃 He actually even called my manager the next day and told him how much he wanted to sign me and that I said I had already signed with him. That was nice.

So this was in July and I'm still getting read requests from that submission in July.

So many people never respond, but the big guys still do. And of those that have read it, they have sent the most positive passes-- even offered mini reviiews... That kind of **** impreses me.

So you found 350 people who rep what you write? Which genre is this? Also, big congrats!

what they said..

I have tried to sell two scripts..

First one I sent around 200... and got around 4 replies, maybe 5. Two I believe were "not interested" and 3 read requests. Nothing came out of it.

My latest script I have probably only sent 50, but that's because I'm still working on it and learned it is easy to turn people off if you send shitty material once.

Also, the number is so high because I query various production companies/management/executives. I try all routes.
