  • Will contests reject scripts with copyrighted songs listed in them?

I have a script that has two different particular songs listed as playing in the scenes. One of which plays twice and the title is actually the title of my screenplay.

Will a contest disqualify me for adding copyrighted material?

You have to get the rights for the actual movie. In script form, you can do whatever you want.

You can write your own Iron Man movie if you want, but it's not going to sell because you don't own the IP, but you can write it as a sample. Plenty of people have done that sort of thing over the years to get noticed.

Just saying in script land you can do whatever you want.

And in fact, a script with a song title is probably more likely to get read and made. Cc, Pretty Woman. (Yes, I know it was called $3000... just making a point..)
