  • What is the best place for a petty criminal with limited cash to run to?

    I have two questions:

    1) I remember hearing somewhere, might have been Scriptnotes, about some place, might have been on Reddit, where screenwriters can ask these kind of questions relating to science, medicine, law etc. for the purposes of their scripts and that there might be people with expertise in those areas answering questions there.

Anyone know of such a place?

    2) Suppose you have a small time crook from NYC who was involved with the mob on a low level and is wanted by the FBI for murder. He's got $25,000. What's the best place for such a guy to run to if he wants to permanently stay out of the law's hands?

Would it be some country that doesn't have an extradition deal with the US? If so, what would be some such countries you could get to and have those 25k go a long way?

Is it not necessary to look for a non extradition country, seeing how this is a small time crook with just one murder that he's wanted for? Would it be safe to assume interpol or whoever wouldn't put much of an effort into finding such a fugitive and that he could basically walk around freely anywhere outside the US?

An American Indian Reservation might be suitable. State and local jurisdiction is very limited and the Federal jurisdiction is only sporadically enforced. Nobody talks to the law in those areas.

Better still a reservation with a casino. Chance to make his 25K, 100K.... or nil and his troubles start afresh

        I did a quick internet search. You'd be surprised--France. They're resistant to extraditing Americans. Here's a link:

Marseilles (a big city) or a very small village near there would be a good hide out. I had relatives that lived there and visited many times. In order to avoid paying taxes, my relatives had to pay half their rent in cash so the government couldn't tax it. I could see someone making it pretty far just on cash.

But they absolutely would have to know French to hide effectively.

I would think a tropical island somewhere or Mexico, but traveling outside the US would require a passport and if they're on the wanted list, they'd be apprehended pretty easily. So they'd have to find a way to sneak INTO another country I think.

          But here's some fun reading...
