  • Deadwood: Statehood

welp... maybe not the best series finale ever (if it can even be called that -- still think Sopranos claims the title anyway). but probably as good as we were going to get from David in two hours with everything else he's been dealing with of late.

wish Alma Ellsworth (Garrett) had had more screen time, and some of the characters' endings were on the softer side of what we've come to expect from a town that owes its very existence to the absence of law. but even in the sadness of drawing the curtain to a close, Swearengen remains the town's center of gravity. tremendous way to go out

It tied up most of the loose ends and it was heartwarming to see old favorite characters, like Calamity Jane and Joanie, again. The dialogue in this series always blew me away - feels like Shakespeare. Satisfying outcome for Trixie and Sol. And Al gets the BEST last line of any TV series in memory. Went out true to how he lived.
