An okay list, but not completely on the money. What happened to Darth Vader telling Luke, "I am your father"? How can you not remember that?

"Luke, I'm your father." is not nearly as classic as any of the lines above. All of above have become popular catch phrases. "Luke, I'm your father" has limited use in day to day conversation.

Well, in my day to day conversation, it comes up a lot more often than "I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore," or that seatbelt quote. And how often does anyone say "May the force be with you"?

"Kansas" and "seatbelt" have been around for ages. I've heard them hundreds of times in conversation. "Luke" only comes up when a new SW film is released. "Force" is a much more iconic quote from those films.

All in all, a good list. Too many quotes from Sunset Strip and the other forgettable B&W's.

Where was "There can only be one" and "Khaaaaaaaan!" and "Beware! I am Death!"

I'm Spartacus! That'll be the day! Put 'em on the endangered species list!

(Pasted from another thread on much the same subject, the 100 top quotes, which I'd replied to today. Sheer laziness...)

I'll admit, some of these quotes did conjure up memories of the movies they came from -- which I guess is the point, and how the criteria was defined. But many didn't. And even when they did, they didn't actually epitomize the movie, they just happened to be the line, or in some cases the word, most easily recalled by lazy memories.

I'd have been a lot happier if they'd asked me to pick a top 10 out of their top 100 choices! But I guess everyone has their personal picks so que sera, let's forget the trivia and salute the films.

The AFI list sucks so much, I'm stunned.

All their lists suck though. So I wasn't THAT surprised.

The first five are right on the money. All of those phrases have taken on lives of their own outside of their original source material. That's saying something.
                            It's a celebration, bitches.

I notice a handful that made the list not because they're great lines, but just because the movie was great.

"Rosebud"? That's not a great quote. It's a word. A proper noun. It's only memorable because it's the hinge on which one of the best movies ever made is hung.
