Christopher Marlowe Officially Credited As Co-Author Of 3 Shakespeare Plays
(proof positive that arbitration battles for credit may indeed last a very long time)
Hey! Nonny, nonny no! Say it ain’t so!
What once was solely William Shakespeare’s verse,
Shares credit now with Christopher Marlowe,
A thing to which some find themselves averse.
Who among us can say which man writ what?
For not one of us was there to see it.
There cannot be enough ale in a pot,
For the Bard's ghost to utter “So be it!”
The moral for writers in the present?
There’ll come a day, so ye’d best beware;
You’ll think your words are yours, nice and pleasant,
Then your work’s subverted! Worse, no one cares.
Mayhap the Bard would find the whole thing droll;
Cursèd be he that makes those old bones roll.
