    No MIDNIGHT RUN?

    Screw this list.

Despite missing MIDNIGHT RUN - that's a good list. It has movies from many different time periods - which are all pretty funny. Also covers different tastes in humor.

The think I hate are the lists that begin at 1985 - as if the world did not exist before that.

Yes. There are at least a hundred honorable mentions. NAKED GUN, THE COURT JESTER, TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN, CLERKS, and ABBOT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN to name a few.

It truly is a solid list. But I can't help thinking about the comedies that had acres of potential but felt short of greatness. Films like LOST IN AMERICA, MOTHER JUGGS & SPEED, THE HOT ROCK, and THE LONELY GUY.

How surprising wonderful it is to see a recent top 10/50/100 movie list that actually has movies that were made before the 70's! I'm shocked!

This list had my favourite, (not counting my own JEKYLL & CANADA):

                    Keaton's THE GENERAL (1926)

If you've not seen it, the Internet Archive gives a poor man's version, (with a terrible soundtrack).

The Kino blu-ray version offers three soundtracks, (my preference being Robert Israel's score, derived from silent film music), as well as an excellent HD print from the original 35mm negatives. One might get a better price elsewhere for this blu-ray.

                    Update on Easter Sunday:

Kino-Lorber is having a Spring Sale, (with 30 to 40% off the regular prices). The "Ultimate" blu-ray edition of THE GENERAL is US$24.47. A real bargain, (with free shipping to the U.S. and Canada for orders of US$50 or more)!!

"Pulp Fiction" doesn't belong on the list.

There are about 300 comedies that should be in that list.

I'd add BLUES BROTHERS and THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS.
