Re: Black List founder Franklin Leonard answers your questions about the Black List
Well, that's why I'm here.
Thanks for the reply. Now that you've clarified things regarding averages and what gets "spotlighted"... I think the premise of my comment still holds (even if there is no "answer" for it): A script that garners a 2 and a 5 is a "bad script" by consensus; A script that gets a 5 and an 8 is a split-decision. Of course such differences of opinion are to be expected.
Still, if I had some responsibility for the new BL product/system (which I clearly do not), I'd be especially concerned when (in effect) a script gets a recommend and a not-recommend from two BL readers.
So there's no misunderstanding, I am not saying that a 5 and an 8 for one script indicates a broken/flawed system. But for BL's writer-customers, once this new service is fully up to cruising speed, inconsistency within a single service provider is a problem from the customers' perspective. For example: Someone submits a script and gets a 6; takes it down, rewrites it, resubmits it, gets a 3. Yeh, maybe the rewrites made it worse, but... I suppose my overarching concern is that there are so many variables facing writers, and so, to the extent that BL's system can reduce internal inconsistencies (variables) with the scores, it's all for the better.
