  • Captain Phillips

Surprised there isn't a thread on this. Check out the new trailer.

Looks fantastic. Greengrass does this kind of film so well.

Movie looks interesting, but what's with that title? Makes you wonder what the rejected options were.

It is a bit of a dull title. Fortunately the trailer is much more exciting.

Too much for the theatre marquee, as was the book's title: A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea.

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS will do just fine.

            Agreed. "Captain Phillips" works.

              Fine.

I guess I can live with it since Under Siege was already taken.

Weren't they attacked because they were WAY too close to shore? Like, over 200 miles too close.

Hey look, it's handsome white men against barbaric Africans (yet again).

Agreed. Don't know what's in the script, but remember the events.

Opportunity in the story for thriller/action scenes, mind games between pirates and captain, life-and-death decision-making by Washington and commanders of the U.S. warship and, I suspect, some exploration of third-world economics/western imperialism/Islamic issues/terrorism/piracy-capitalism--bunch of issues they can hit on.

                      Great little moment:
"Look at me. Look at me. I am the captain now."

Hope the script has more like that.

                        You've got to be kidding.

Doesn't the fact that this story actually happened, and that the pirates were indeed not very nice, rather neuter such a criticism?

                        And "handsome"? Tom Hanks?

Anyway, people always talk about "Die Hard in a..." Well, here's Die Hard in a Boat -- for real.

I do agree that the title is pathetic, though. The book title, A Captain's Duty, would have been much better. Multiple meanings, and all that.

Was talking with some writers the other day and we all agreed - great trailer, terrible title.
