Default Info on Andrew Lauren Productions?

Does anyone have any info on them? Or worked with them before?

Thanks,

They sound very professional. They requested a script last week and I was wondering if they were like some that "scam" us writers? But I am sure they are legit and really just wanted to know what kind of reputation they had.

Thanks for the answer.

You may have already looked it up, but they produced "The Squid and the Whale" and "G". The "Squid" screenplay won a WGA award. Nice little movie, if you haven't seen it. This was the first producer to turn an ear my way. The script they asked me for seems a little big for this company, but they may have other connecions. I'll be surprised if they take it (although they've had it for four months), but I still like them. They are open to new writers and quite friendly -- like they answer emails and all that.

R.D. So you are saying they have had your script for 4 months and havent given you an answer whether they are going to option or pass?
Or did I misunderstand what you said?

Yes, you understood. This even prompted me to start a new thread under Business Advice. But I think Boski addressed it in the note above.

But what I really meant was how they communicated before I sent the script. I had met their rep at the Austin Film Festival in 2005. After the usual query (on other material), I got friendly responses instead of the usual snub. Then when I queried another piece later, they asked for it. Then, months later, I decide that this script really wasn't so good, and I told them I wanted to rewrite it. It was like, sure, no problem. Just send the new one when it's ready, and we'll throw out the other.

That's what I meant. But things may change with personnel changes and all, so this is just my own experience. And I haven't lost hope just yet.

If you're asking me, I really don't know. My contacts were in this order: Jim Bevers*, Art Heller, Ariana Jackson. Boski says Ariana is gone, so things might have changed. I hope they still have the open-mindedness that they did have.

Addendum: I got this name wrong. Sorry, it was Richard Bever.

Thanks all for the heads up. I won't be holding my breath on them and I've had times where producers will get back in a few weeks and ome will promise you over and over they will get to it next week and they never do? Imagine that!

If it doesn't take an eternity to hear back I'll let you know their updated turn around time. What kind of scripts did you guys submit?

Funny thing is, mine is a historical Biblical drama of which no religioius companies are interested in. Probably cause its the old Testiment?

From the sound of your script, and mine, it looks like ALP is looking at fairly big-budget screenplays. They must have something up their sleeves, since "Squid" was just a very good indie (shot in Super 16mm!). My script is a sci-fi on the scale of "2001" (and due for another rewrite). -- I guess you just never know!
